Celebrating Halloween in France, the UK and Beyond!

Bonjour ghouls and ghosts! 🎃👻
Halloween is coming up and we thought it would be fun to take a ghost tour of how this spook-tacular holiday is celebrated across the globe. Grab your pitchforks and broomsticks, because we’re diving into the Halloween spirit in France, the UK and one more surprise destination that really knows how to go all out.
France: La Fête d’Halloween
You could think France may be too chic for Halloween but, oh là là, you're so very wrong! While it’s not as big a deal as it is in the US, Halloween in France is catching on like a vampire at a blood drive. Kids dress up in spooky costumes and knock on doors for sweeties, shouting "des bonbons ou un sort!" (trick or treat!). Plus, our rental properties are just perfect for a cozy, haunted getaway this time of year. Nothing like sipping some Bordeaux while watching spooky old films, am I right?
UK: A Spooky Affair
Across the Channel, Halloween in the UK is a blend of old and new traditions. From classic apple bobbing to modern-day costume parties, the Brits really know how to celebrate in style. I mean, the UK does have the perfect location for halloween: the secluded English countryside, misty evenings and plenty of gothic churches. It's the stuff of fairytales and nightmares! And, let's not forget, the pumpkin carving contests because they really go all in.
Mexico: Día de los Muertos
Now for our wildcard – Mexico! Whilst not technically Halloween, the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is a fascinating mix of spooky and heartfelt. Celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, it's all about honouring deceased loved ones with beautiful vibrant altars, fantastic sugar skulls, and the most stunning marigold flowers. It’s a delightfully colourful celebration that’s both festive and poignant.
So there you have it, whether you're planning a trip to one of our charming rentals in France or hopping on a plane to explore more Halloween traditions, may your holiday be filled with treats, not tricks.
À bientôt and Happy Haunting! 🧙♀️✨
