Get Your Home Ready For Autumn
Posted on 16th October 2024 at 22:15
As the leaves begin to change colour and the air becomes crisp, it's time to refresh your space and get ready for those delightfully cosy months ahead. Cleaning your home in time for autumn doesn't need to be a daunting task; you have the power to make it a pleasant and even fun experience! So, grab yourself a hot drink, put on some super comfy cleaning clothes and let's get started 🍂
1. Declutter and Donate
Start with that purge you’ve been meaning to do since January. Go through all places where clutter thrives: closets, cupboards and drawers. If you haven't used something in the past year, it's time to say let it go, literally. You’re going to feel a million times lighter plus, an added bonus of knowing you’re donating your things to a worthy cause.
2. Deep Clean Carpets and Rugs
After a summer of sandy beach trips, muddy walks and your home becoming the go to place on a Friday night, your carpets and rugs will be in desperate need of a good deep clean. Rent a carpet cleaner or hire a professional. It's amazing how much fresher your home feels with clean floors. And, if you're ever in France and staying in one of our cosy rentals, you'll notice we keep our properties just as spotless — no muddy or dusty floors here!
3. Clean Windows and Curtains
Let the few rays of sunlight we get in the autumn months shine through clean windows and feel the difference! To be able to do this you’ll need to give them a good wash both inside and out. But make sure not to forget to give your curtains a good clean as well—it’s surprising how much dust they can collect.
4. Freshen Up the Fireplace
If you're lucky enough to have a picturesque fireplace in your home, now’s the time to sort it out. Clean out old ash, stock up on some firewood and check to make sure your chimney is in good condition. Nothing says autumnal atmosphere like a roaring fire. Speaking of cosy fires, we couldn’t not mention that not one, but two of our properties - La Petite Maison and Le Petit Gite - boast a charming wood burner in its cosy salon that is a real highlight during the colder months.
5. Change all your Bedding
Say goodbye to your lightweight pastel summer sheets and bring out those heavy-duty comforters and fluffy blankets. Flannel sheets and plush throws are an absolute must for those brisk autumn evenings.
6. Kitchen Care
Autumn is all about rustling up warm, hearty meals so make sure to give your kitchen a thorough clean. Scrub down those cabinets inside and out, clean the oven (it may take some time but is so worth it in the long run, we promise) and organise your pantry, paying special attention to expiry dates. This will make cooking your favourite autumn dishes much more enjoyable.
7. Garden and Outdoor Spaces
It may seem a little crazy but even though you may not be using them as much don't neglect your outdoor spaces. Rake up fallen leaves, clean out your gutters and store any summer furniture away for next year. Preparing your garden for autumn can also be a great way to enjoy the last days of mild weather.
8. Add some fun Autumn Touches
Think cosy throws, autumnal wreaths and pumpkin-scented candles. A few small touches can make your home feel like a French boudoir straight out of a rom-com.
There you have it—a simple guide to getting your home autumn-ready! Whether you're sprucing up your own space or planning a stay at one of our delightful rentals, a little preparation can make this season the cosiest one yet. Happy cleaning and enjoy the autumn vibes!
Stay cheeky and keep it clean! 😜🍁
