The beautiful countryside
Set in the beautiful countryside of the Pays de la Loire in France, the estate of Le Moulin de la Quentiniere comprises two stunning five bedroom houses and a fantastic leisure complex, complete with indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and games room.
The Patio and Courtyard
Outside, there is a lovely paved patio with patio tables and chairs, sun loungers and a charcoal barbecue for guest use (seasonal). The large courtyard has ample parking and across from Le Moulin, we have the Leisure Complex.
The courtyard leads down to a lush 1/3 acre lawned garden, with a stone built barbecue with an eating area with table and seating, along with a pétanque terrain (there is a boules set available for guest use).
The stunning village
Le Moulin is an idyllic setting to while away the hours. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy un grand café, un kir de cassis or the local delicacy, un verre du pommeau. We are located in the little village of Désertines, complete with a public house, church, hairdressers, restaurant and friendly locals. Désertines is located in the town of Gorron, the Mayenne department of the Pays de la Loire. For those who like to explore, it is an ideal base from which to travel to other places of interest (information leaflets are displayed in both Le Moulin and La Petite Maison for guests' use and please refer to your Welcome Pack for more details).

What we have done to the complex
Since buying Le Moulin de la Quentiniere, we have made some major changes:
Completely replaced the roof for the whole estate
Refurbished Le Moulin, taking it from a two-storey dilapidated building to a three-storey modern dwelling with 5 sumptious bedrooms, complete with ensuites, measuring approx 400 sq ft each
Installed an up-to-date modern kitchen in each property
Installed a projector and cine screen (great for slide shows, presentations, etc)
Increased the WIFI/internet capacity with a new MESH system
Restructured the main garden with a large barbecue area and pétanque terrain
Fitted a large capacity fosse septique
Created an outside rear decked area for Le Moulin
Had a new transformer installed to provide sufficient power for the estate
Completed the refurbishment of two pig barns to house our fully equipped leisure complex - indoor swimming pool with lockers and changing area, showers and his/her WCs, gymnasium and games room with Xbox and Wii consoles
Refurbished the gite (for use as private living accommodation)
Had solar panels fitted
Had the courtyard re-tarmaced and decked the outside patio area
Modernised the electricity supply system
Re-pointed the exterior of the buildings
About Us and Le Moulin
My husband, Andrew, and I bought Le Moulin de la Quentiniere in 2007. Built in the 1880s, le minoterie de la quentiniere (the name displayed in brick into the top of the main building) was originally a working flour mill, milling grain for the area of Désertines. When we first saw its gorgeous structure, we fell in love with it and it has continued to work its magic on us for the past 12 years.
Our passion for France started early on. As a girl, I remember my day trip to Calais - how exciting! – and how easy it was to get to such a wonderful country. Both myself and my husband love France; the language, the people, the expanse of countryside, green rolling fields, large open spaces. Désertines encompasses all that is wonderful about our area of France; the easy, relaxed lifestyle, the friendly people, the wonderful natural food and the abundance of good quality wine!
We have been lucky to have had such a great location to come back to time and again; when our children were little, they enjoyed the big open spaces to run and play and now that they are teen adults, they bring their friends with them to relax, hang out and explore.
