Chrissie Lord lives in a former village farmhouse with her husband and a menagerie of dogs, cats and chickens in Madré, north of Mayenne.
She worked as a nutritionist alongside her nursing career and when expanding her clinics in the UK was looking for products to complement her other special interests of Aromatherapy and Herbal Medicine. NYROrganic and QSciences - The Science of Happiness - were obvious choices enabling Chrissie to offer comprehensive advice and treatments as a result.
Elsa Mailloux likes to combine several modalities to help others reach the well-being they deserve and are entitled to. After seeing the side effects of modern medicine and the generally accepted lifestyle were having on her children, she decided to adopt a natural approach. She fights back by educating carers in the ways of using Certified Pure Therapeutic grade essential oils and nutritional supplements, as well as performing Reiki, Rapid Transformational Therapy and Mindscaping for better holistic care.

An explorer at heart, these last five years have been marked by numerous trips to Asia in search of authentic experiences to fuel her spiritual quest. Her travels greatly influenced her philosophy of life - and her practice of yoga - which then appeared as a true lifestyle and a great tool for personal development.
Thanks to several years of practice and observing the positive impact of yoga on her development (stress management, self-confidence, control of diet, improvement of well-being in everyday life ...), she decided to dedicate herself fully to yoga.
Yoga teacher trained in Indonesia (200h RYT) and certified by Yoga Alliance, She created Be Yogi to share her teaching in Hatha and Vinyasa and to give well-being advice.
Debbie Parfitt is our onsite beauty and wellbeing therapist. She has worked in the industry since 2011 and enjoys meeting new people and the rewards it brings. She is qualified to offer a range of beauty treatments and specifically for our retreat, Debbie has created a special menu of treatments for you to choose from. These personal packages can be tailored to your individual needs; to provide that little something extra and provide the ultimate in relaxation and rejuvenation with Debbie's expert touch.

Hilary Radwanski has a BSc(hons) in Natural Sciences and worked for a time in a hospital microbiology and virology laboratory. She took a post graduate diploma course in Naturopathic medicine. As a therapist, she regularly recommends yoga to her clients as a holistic and highly beneficial means of exercising, improving overall health and promoting mindfulness and calm to alleviate the stresses of modern living. Many clients lamented the fact that the classes they had tried were too adanced for them so Hilary took a yoga instructor's training course, graduating with distinction, and set up her own courses for complete beginners. She adapted her approach to make it more accessible to residents of an old peoples' home so those unable to stand could still participate. With a lifelong addiction to learning and, in order to optimise her therapeutic range of skills, she has also studied world religions, grief counselling, mindfulness, aromatherapy, hot and cold stone massage therapy and is currently studying advanced clinical and medical hypnotherapy and applied kinesiology. Explore the markets, lakes and more

Le Moulin is in the little village of Désertines, in the town of Gorron, the Mayenne department of the Pays de la Loire. For those who like to explore, it is an ideal base from which to travel to other places of interest. There are weekly markets in the surrounding towns; the one in Gorron is on a Wednesday morning - get there early!

You will find plenty of public parks with floral displays, boating lakes, countryside walks, Centres de Loisirs, where you can hire bicycles, go hiking along adventure trails or, for the more intrepid, try kayaking or the high wire walks through the treetops!

Discover French Nature

For those with a penchant for all things nature based, the area has a plethora of flora and fauna, from the rollings fields of maize in the summer months to the banks of apple and pear trees, chestnut trees and wild flowers.

The red squirrel - one of many protected mammals in France - is one creature that has sought refuge here and can sometimes be spotted going about its daily routine...

Activities

Centre de Loisirs - for bicycle hire, adventure trails, high wire – en route to Gorron, Bagnoles de L’Orne.
Surrounding areas: Cider museum - a lovely family-run business where cider, poire (pear), pommeau and calvados is made – en route to Mayenne, Lassay les Chateaux
Ange Michel parc d’attractions - amusement park with water slides and an assortment of rides (open mid-April to September) - en route to Le Mont St Michel.

Eating Out

Cafés
There are great, cosy cafes within a short drive from where we are based in Desertines; try Manges Tu or Cafe Gourmand in Gorron, a great crêperie, Le Petit Monde in Fontaine Daniel, right by a lovely lake. Explore the many cafes in Mayenne, Ernée, Fougères and surrounding areas

Restaurants
Locally, I would suggest Papillon in Gorron, La Forge in Fontaine Daniel, on one of its good days, Le Bretagne in Fougères, L'Eveil des Sens in Mayenne, lovely seafood at the Salty Dog Bar & Bistro in St Aubin, gorgeous eats at A l'Ardoise in St Hilaire du Harcouet. By all means, check out the surrounding areas too.

With its abundance of roaming cattle, the restaurants (and, indeed, the supermarkets) in Pays de Loire are stocked with a stunning array of meat with which to create dishes – mouthwatering steaks, veal, local saucisse and the Normandy speciality, tripe, if you choose to do some experimenting in our wonderful kitchens.

Vegetarians can also choose from a vast selection of creamy cheeses and risottos, omelettes and tarts, freshly picked mushrooms and wonderful seafood – oysters, coquilles St Jacques, lobster and langoustines.

Vegans will delight in sampling seasonal produce cooked with the connoisseur in mind - mushroom bourguignon, crêpes, ratatouille...

Swimming

Over the years, I have travelled from our base at Le Moulin with my two children, checking out all the local pools and aquabulles. An aquabulle is great fun, with indoor/outdoor pools, slides, jets and some with diving pools
public swimming baths - Gorron, Mayenne, Fougeres
aquabulle (slides, water jets) – Gorron, Bagnoles de L’Orne, Laval
