The stunning village
Complete with quaint villages and friendly locals; Le Moulin is an idyllic setting to while away the hours. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy un grand café, un kir de cassis or the local delicacy, un verre du pommeau. We are located in the little village of Désertines, in the town of Gorron, the Mayenne department of the Pays de la Loire. For those who like to explore, it is an ideal base from which to travel to other places of interest.
Famous for its culinary superiority, France is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, receiving over 80 million foreign visitors each year. Visitors are attracted by the historic cities, the beautiful countryside along with the abundance of castles situated in the Loire Valley, Brittany and Normandy. In addition, France offers an agreeable climate, some excellent beaches and a rich culture with food and wines that are among the most celebrated in the world.

What we have done to the complex
Since buying Le Moulin de la Quentiniere, we have made some major changes. After completing the work needed for the top floor room of La Petite Maison – closing off the exposed roof, we have:
Completely replaced the roof for the whole estate
Refurbished Le Moulin, taking it from a two-storey dilapidated building to a three-storey modern dwelling with 5 bedrooms, complete with en-suites, measuring approx 400 sq ft each
Installed an up-to-date kitchen in each property
Added a large utility room in Le Moulin with American washer and large capacity dryer along with ironing press and airers for guest use
Painted both La Petite Maison and Le Moulin from top to bottom (as part of an annual maintenance programme)
Restructured the main garden area
Fitted a large capacity fosse septique
Encased the garage area in gorgeous wooden panels
Had a new transformer installed to provide sufficient power for the estate
Completed the refurbishment of two pig barns to house our fully equipped leisure complex - indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi with lockers and changing area, showers and his/her WCs, gymnasium and games room with Xbox and Wii consoles
Refurbished the gite (for use as private living accommodation)
Had solar panels fitted
Had the courtyard re-tarmaced
Decked the outside patio area
Modernised the electricity supply system
Installed French and additional foreign language tv channels to all the television sets on site
Re-pointed the exterior of the buildings
Created an outside decked area for Le Moulin
About Us and Le Moulin
My husband, Andrew, and I bought Le Moulin de la Quentiniere in 2007. Built in the 1880s, le minoterie de la quentiniere (the name built into the main building) was originally a bespoke flour mill, milling grain for the area of Désertines. When we first saw its gorgeous structure, we fell in love with it and it has continued to work its magic on us for the past 11 years.
Our passion for France started early on. As a girl, I remember my day trip to Calais - how exciting! – and how easy it was to get to such a wonderful country. Both myself and my husband love France; the language, the people, the expanse of countryside, green rolling fields, large open spaces. Désertines encompasses all that is wonderful about our area of France; the easy, relaxed lifestyle, the friendly people, the wonderful natural food and the abundance of good quality wine!
We have been lucky to have had such a great location to come back to time and again; when our children were little, they enjoyed the big open spaces to run and play and now that they are teen adults, they bring their friends with them to relax, hang out and explore.
